There were no dearth of words for the cricket lovers to praise this fantastic series well played and well fought between the two great cricketing teams. Series ended up in a draw as it actually deserves. Match 1 was dominated by England who beat India by 5 wickets. Match 2, India bounced back with a 366 runs victory to balance the series. Match 3, again England showed their class with a narrow victory of 22 runs to lead the series 2-1. Match 4, something that England should have won but India resisted and forced a draw with series alive at 2-1 in England’s favour. Match 5 was fought tooth and nail by both teams, every session saw the pendulum oscillating on either side, until that brilliant 143 km/h yorker from Mohd Siraj that uprooted the off stump of Atkinson and left the hosts gasping, short by 6 runs. Series ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Test matches were played at their best. Teams scored 600+ runs to show batting dominance while they were also bowled out for 170 to show the bowlers strength. There were many heroes viz Gill with highest score, Root breaking the world records, Ben Stokes brilliance, Brook’s and Jadeja’s resistance for their respective teams. Pant batting with fractured feet and Woaks coming to bat with dislocated shoulders to save their teams. If all this was not sufficient enough, the display of sheer strength, focus, stamina and commitment of Siraj won the heart of all who saw him bowling that last day and the last bowl.
