While discussing my earlier blog on ‘Suicide, Stress and Services’, some of the friends suggested that I should write something on handling stress. Hence this Sillypoint.
While I suggested a few points for organizations to adopt to manage stress in the organization, it is also necessary that employees themselves must be careful about their own wellbeing and manage their stress effectively. We are discussing here about Work stress and not the stress that is caused otherwise, though both have relation and they affect each other. So, let’s begin
KID’S LIFE AND US:
See the kid who is left at school for the first time in his/her life, without parents, home, toys. That is stress. That is too much stress for his/her age and we expect that 4 years kid to manage that stress, why can’t we?
How did he manage or probably many of us have managed that stress when we were kids. Let’s compare us and 4 years kid on stress points
KID | WE |
He accepted the new environment | We are still trying that environment should become the way I want. NO, we have to adapt to the environment like that kid. |
He made friends in school | Do we have sufficient friends? If not, we need to make friends within our professional field. Talk to people, help them and you will have friends. For some time leave your problem and solve someone else’s problem and you will have friends. |
He started listening to the teacher | Do we listen to the one who controls us? We have become so intelligent that we started finding fault with the organization, management, boss, seniors without looking within. Listen and make an attempt to understand what the organization wants from us. |
He learnt organizing his books, tiffin, cloths etc and over and above controls his nature’s call also. Big deal. | Are we organized in our work? If we are organized, we will be able to solve many things. Please see your table, dust on your laptop, your passwords and your time. We shall talk on time management sometimes else, but we must try to do that as the Kid is doing it. |
He started reading and writing | Are we?. Please read relevant things, make a few notes if you can’t remember. Lack of knowledge increases our stress. |
He does his homework | Are we doing the homework correctly? If we have to crack a deal, have we learnt enough about the counterparty, business etc. OR are we doing sufficient homework before a meeting. |
He plays and enjoys | Please get sometime for yourself and play the way you want. Again, it comes to time management. |
He got a rank or got scolding | So did we. Either we get a rank or scolding what is new about it. |
If, now we say that we can’t handle stress, that means we are lesser than a 4-year chap. It is all in mind. The stress and responsibilities go hand in hand with our knowledge and learning. It doesn’t cross our capacity.
OPAQUE WALL:
Personal life tensions are not to be mixed with the professional life and vice versa. If these are kept separate, it remains within limits and if mixed, it will give a cascading effect, increasing it manyfold. One cannot shout at their subordinate or boss because something wrong happened at home. The wall needs to be as far as opaque.
NEWTON’S LAW:
Master scientist Newton has already given the formula for pressure
p = f/a
p = Pressure
f = Force
a = area
In our real life, PRESSURE is STRESS, FORCE is OUR STRESS REASONS and AREA is OUR KNOWLEDGE & LEARNING.
Higher the area, lower is the pressure. The higher the Knowledge and learning, the lower is the stress.
PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANCY:
In case someone is not able to overcome, even after all the efforts, there is nothing wrong seeking a professional’s guidance to deal with the stressed situation.
Let me close now by quoting the English translation of a verse from Quran
“Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity” (2:286)

This one is much needed motivation

Nice 👍. Will help a lot to those who are constantly under pressure due to work or academics. But what about stress of 4 year old 🤣🤣?
Well, comparing us with a 4 yr kid may not guide us in a right way as the kid doesn’t have neurons enough, to develop stress. It’s like comparing us to a donkey who has to face lot of physical challenge from morning to evening but never develops stress related conditions like high BP or diabetes. Moreover a kid has great leverage of crying loud which solves many of his problem. We don’t have that Liberty. Yes, there are ways to deal with stress, few of which you have mentioned.
But I really believe if someone who really is in stress should visit some therapist, if they can’t handle it on their own which most ppl think they can 🤓
Agreed!!
Excellent sir
thanks
This is so important! I like how kids have been given high importance in the post, as our learning and adaptability are extremely good when we are kids. I also do not completely agree with the conclusion, ‘The Higher the area, the lower the pressure. The higher the Knowledge and learning, the lower is the stress.’ Sometimes, knowledge and learning can be a huge cause of stress as well; the saying ‘Ignorance is Bliss’ is still often used for a reason. A lot of big philosophers died of mental health illnesses and were not the most ‘chill’ and stress-free kind of people (probably related to stress). Overall, I like how the post brings up Stress as something that is important and is easily ignored by people. I like how it highlights the lack of adaptability, trust, updating our ways of working, and fun/play as factors that contribute to stress.
Well commented Nashra. The very purpose of discussion is that we should reach at a better understanding on various issues. Expect your thoughtful responses in future as well
I love the way the author has provided a simple plug and play method to handle stress. Moreover, the highlight on contributing factors of stress that most people often brush aside or disregard, like the importance of a clean workspace, healthy personal relationships as well as adding a little room for fun here and then is an honest eye opener.
Thanks for your comments
It is a well established fact that stress has managed to worm its way in almost every field whether it be academics or work. Albeit many thinkers have provided insights and methods on handling stress, it proves to be often knotty and testing to inculcate in our daily life.

Simple but thoughtful analogy. It is said ” Fortune favours the prepared man” and we all need to plan and adapt accordingly.
Really helpful article in this stressful time of ours
