Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the Indian Navy Advanced communication satellite GSAT 7R (CMS-03) on 2nd Nov 2025 at 17:26 hours from Satish Dhavan Space Center Sriharikota (Distt Nallore, A.P). The rocket LMV 3 M5 that launched the satellite is termed as BAHUBALI.
The satellite, weighing around 4400 Kgs is the heaviest ever carried by an Indian rocket. Earlier the satellites of over 3000 kgs were launched through the European rockets. CMS-03 is a multi-band communication satellite aiming to provide services over a wide oceanic region including the Indian landmass. This satellite will replace GSAT 7 launched in 2013 that has completed its lifespan.
ISRO Chairman Mr V Narayanan said that CMS-03 is designed to provide services for 15 years. He further said that ISRO is planning to launch 7 more satellites by March 2026. The satellite is placed in a geosynchronous orbit and it will be stationary compared to earth. Geosynchronous Orbit means an orbit where satellite moves along with the earth’s axis and hence looks stationary from the earth.
